Mandy is an observant woman who tries to see the whole picture logically. While not introverted exactly she has a need to assess a situation before jumping headlong into it. Once she is comfortable in her environment, she is friendly and engaging.
Personal History:
Mandy was born to Harold and Abigail Brocklehurst in Sevenoaks just outside of London near Kent. While both her parents were magical, they lived near her muggle grandparents who were infirmed and her muggle-born mother preferred to remain closer in case they needed her. Growing up magical around muggles taught Mandy to be careful; as soon as she had started to show magic she was given the lecture on secrecy and how she would need to be careful about the wrong people seeing her do magic. She and her younger brother Connor were very reserved out side of the home but inside were the wild and magical children people dreamed of. Their mother was always asked if they were always so good and she could only smirk knowing the trouble her two could really get into when they put their minds to it.
When the time came, Mandy headed off to Hogwarts she was eager to be free with her magic and have the chance to learn as much about her abilities as she could. After begin sorted into Ravenclaw house, Mandy spent the first week trying to get a handle on the castle itself and her classes before getting to know her new housemates. Luckily not all in her house thought her processes were odd and she soon found herself making good friends with Padma Patil and Morag McDougal. Classes were a joy to her and Mandy could see a logical progression to each of them excepting Divination. Her time spent with Trelawny were near painful listening to the Professor wail on about near death and sorrow coming. Adding that very few of the predictions ever came true, Mandy cam to the conclusion that there was no logical reason for the class and started using her time there to work on other projects. She had learned early on that as long as she predicted a painful death Trelawny seemed happy with her homework.
In the next two Mandy learned to balance the two worlds she lived in. Her mother never really ventured much into the magical world as her parents were declining quickly and she was needed at home. Mandy used the time off school to really investigate the Wizarding world with her father and what her role would be in it. School was still going well for her once she had taken her OWLS and stopped taking Divination for good. She had a passion for Ancient Runes and Arithmancy that surpassed her goals in her other subjects.
Fourth year brought the Triwizard tournament and the chance to meet other students above all else, sure the competitions were fascinating to watch but getting to see how the girls in Beaxbatons used different spells was much more interesting. During the exchange she became very good friends with witch visiting from Beaxbatons named Margaux. During the summer she had been allowed to visit her in France and Mandy found her eyes opened to a whole other wizarding world. Once the return of You-know-who had been confirmed, school had been a less pleasant place. Mandy often worried about her mother who was on holiday to avoid the muggleborn registration Act. Her grandparents had died earlier that year, relieving Abigail from that responsibility while she fought to remain free. The best Mandy could do was keep her head down and keep her grades up. Part of her felt guilty for beomg a half blood when she knew her house mate Luna was on the run.
After the war, Mandy accepted an apprenticeship in France from an Arithmancy Master near Nice, being in France allowed her to reconnect with her friend Margaux and her family. Her own family had permanently relocated to Spain, because of the stresses the war had put on her mother, they just wanted a warm place to live and her father had started working for the Spanish Ministry of Magic in a similar one that he had been in at the British Ministry. With her in France it all just worked out for them all a clean start away from the mess the war left behind.
It was during her apprenticeship that Mandy met the man she would eventually marry. Lysander was an apprentice to a Transfiguration Master who was friends with her own Master. When the two masters got together, the two apprentices would work on their assigned tasks and share tea after wards. When their apprenticeships finsihed the two were married. Like any relationship they had their ups and downs but with their careers just starting out, Mandy and Lysander were pretty happy. Their families had approved of the match and the French Ministry utilized their joint skills.
In time they chose to expand their family and Mandy had a son named Adrien who was the light of their lives. Sadly love and happiness wasn't to last. Once Mandy woke from a dream where Lysander had drowned on a fishing trip. After telling her husband about it they both laughed at how silly that was since he was an avid, yet careful fisherman and never fished alone. Two weeks later though while out fishing with his brother a sudden storm came up and both wizards were lost to the waters. Everyone told her the dream was just a fluke, that women's intuition but the incident continued to haunt Mandy.
Deciding that she needed something new, Mandy and Adrien moved back to England in time for him to start Hogwarts. She had taken a position at the Ministry in the Department of Transportation, where her work consisted of probability estimates of accidents. Not the most challenging work but it kept her mind off of things. Like the dreams that would pop up unpredictably. Never more than once a year at first and her knowledge wasn't always bad. Still, Mandy refused to believe that the dreams were visions as she knew Diviniation was illogical and unreliable at best.
Her son grew up and Mandy was proud to watch him graduate from Hogwarts and start an apprenticeship of his own, this one in Care of Magical Creatures. As Adrien left home, leaving her with a full household of pets he had collected. While she had reconnected with friends upon her return to Wizarding Britain it just wasn't the same. Her work and research took presecence in her life and she tried to ignore the growing increase of the dreams that came to her. The isolation she had imposed on herself, caused the dreams to be more vivid and often involved people she didn't know personally. For years this continued and Mandy's health started to deteriorate as she fought their control in her mind. At fifty she committed herself to the Janus Thicky Ward at St Mungo's convince that though she was still young for a witch, madness had taken her over. Three years in the ward led her to fall into a catatonic state as the dreams finally had complete control, shortly after wards Mandy's body shut down due to stress.
Physical:
Mandy physically average. Height of 5'4. Weight is 122. She has brown eyes and olive toned skin. At the time of her death her hair was greying and was long usually in a braid. In this new life she has shorter hair that is dark with an edgy cut. There is a small birth mark near her lip where her mum used to tease a fly bit her. While not terribly sporty Mandy keeps herself fit with yoga and Pilates. There is a scar on her knee from when she had fallen out of a tree when she was nine.
Occupation: Arithmancer for the Department of Transportation
Alliance: Neutral
Historical or Mythological Figure and why you chose them: Themis; I chose Themis because of all the attributes she represents. Mandy is a witch who clung to reason and logic denying any other forms. Later in life she developed the unconscious magic of having visions but rather than having faith in herself to accept her visions as truth, she fought them leading her to madness that eventually lead to a catatonic state and death. In this new life living with Themis she will have the chance to understand the gift she had been given and see it's value:

Third Person Example:
"Maman?" Adrien walked into the cottage he had grown up in, very little had changed and that was both a comfort and a dis-ease to him. He had often wished his mother had been able to move on from his father's death and find a new companion. For most of his life though she seemed content just to spend her time with him and her old friend. Hearing her son, Mandy smiled and brushed off her face. She was setting up the backyard garden and was pleased he had decided to drop in for a visit. Calling out as she stood up. "In the garden, son."
Heading out the backdoor, Adrien was greeted by his mother who gave him a warm hug. "What brings you home, Adrien? Not that I'm not thrilled to see you." She looked at her grown son's face and marveled at how muc he looked like his father. He looked stern though. "Maman, the solicitor sent an owl and I would like an explanation." Mandy tried to laugh it off, it hadn't occurred to her that he would be contacted so soon. "Oh, it's nothing just setting my affairs in order. Just in case of course. Your father never did any of that and it was such a mess, I just wanted to spare you that."
Yes, that sounded like a reasonable reason. Her son eyed her carefully before nodded. "Alright, but are you sure? Even the Gringott's accounts have my name on them." She nodded. "I'm sure ma petite, I still have full access and controls of the account, it is just in case." Telling him that was hard, but Mandy knew that telling her only child she was going crazy would be harder.
I'm not there yet, thank MerlinFirst Person Journal Entry:
It can't be true these things I have seen. So much pain and anger. I don't even know the faces that appear in these dreams, at least with Lysander I knew him. I even told him but it didn't change anything so these can't be prophecy. I think that I might be loosing my mind. Thankfully my work doesn't seem to be suffering yet but when the time comes I know I will have to give up my job. Right now this is all I have. My sweet Adrien, he is doing so well almost done with his apprenticeship. His father would be so proud. I have gone to see my solicitor and put everything in his name for when I am gone. He doesn't like to discuss such things but I know I can't last forever. When the time comes, I hope it won't be as traumatic as his father's death was.
